Day 2’s big adventure was the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, which advertised 24 species of crocodilians as well as rare birds, mammals, and reptiles. It turned out to be one of the better attractions in St. Augustine.
We had plenty to see…
Up close with Mr. Alligator
Chomp!
Alligator in the sun
Ready for food, just like when I feed the cats
Showtime feeding frenzy. She had pet names for all of the gators. He’s eating a dead rat.
Where’s our beach ball?
Looks like he’s smiling
Enjoying the alligator farm
The whole family
Denali and Colby go for a ride?
Say cheese!
Alligator naps
Beautiful wood carved alligator
Funny joke?
Galapagos tortoises - an endangered species
Playground time!
Spiderman!
Buddha statue… “Nothing can harm you as much as your own thoughts unguarded.”
We also learned a bit about the difference between alligators and crocodiles… you can tell a crocodile from an alligator by the teeth: teeth of lower jaw can be seen when jaw is closed in a crocodile, but not an alligator.
Aftet the alligator farm, we decided to check out the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.
219 steps! Can you imagine carrying the 30 pound lard oil cans up and down these stairs all day and night?
Breathtaking view
Beautiful Fresnel lens, replaced in 1993 after a fourteen year old vandal shot out the historic lens in 1986.
Made it to the top!
Ooh we, chirpy chirpy, cheep cheep!
We finished off our busy day with dinner at the Sunset Grille on the A1A, where we ate delicious Minorcan datil shrimp for dinner, along with the requisite key lime pie and peanut butter pie (shared all around). After dinner, we wandered around the beach for a bit.
Wandering the beach
At last, a chance to play at the beach! (Even if it was a bit chilly)
Dodging waves
No sun to worry about this evening!
We saw a few stranded jellyfish as well. Don’t step there!
